MMMHMC’S PEDIA RECYCLES SCRAPS; CREATES CHILDREN LIBRARY
The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center created a mini children’s library at the Out Patient Department (OPD) from donations and scrap materials amidst the pandemic.
“The idea was conceptualized even before year 2020”, Dr. Maria Paz Virginia Otayza, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, said. “However, the proposed location was converted into wards when the department felt the need to expand because of increasing census”. Otayza shared that she always dreamed to have a children’s library in their department, hence, when their plan did not materialize, they thought of relocating it at the OPD.
Together with Dr. Noreen Mayubay, Head of the OPD Pediatrics and Ms. Efleda Sarah Marders, Chief Nurse, scrap materials at the Engineering and Facilities Management were identified and later turned to small tables and bookshelves by talented hospital carpenters. Both of them also donated from their own to improve the ambiance of the mini library.
