MMMH&MC PROMOTES HEALTH ADVOCACIES VIA FESTIVAL
Health workers from the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) here brought a new twist to Flores de Mayo last May 21, 2019, by highlighting public health advocacies during the celebration.
In her opening speech during the event, Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza, Medical Center Chief II, upheld that the Flores de Mayo celebration of the MMMH&MC focused on the plight of the poor and marginalized and how they can easily access the various services of MMMH&MC.
“In our daily role as ambassadors for health, this celebration is our unique and engaging way to promote our [health] programs and bring our message of hope and unity in the community,” Dr. Otayza emphasized.
The celebration included a pageant-like Santa Cruzan procession wherein the eight (8) pairs of participating health workers paraded around the city while carrying their custom-made arches with designs that highlighted their public health advocacies such as Newborn Screening and Newborn Hearing Test, Human Milk Banking/Kangaroo Mother Care, EINC and Breastfeeding, Adolescent Health Program, Animal Bite Treatment Center, Nutrition Support Clinic, Voluntary Blood Donation. TB-DOTS and Mental Health Awareness Program.

CHED GRANTS CERTIFICATE OF ACCREDITATION OF MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY TRAINING PROGRAM TO MMMH&MC
The MMMH&MC Department of Pathology and Laboratories, in its pursuit to fulfill the Medical Technology/ Laboratory Science Internship Training Program has renewed its accreditation granted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for having complied with the requirements of the comission for accreditation of Clinical Laboratory Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Internship Training covering a two-year period.
The department shares in the hospital’s vision: “To provide excellent healthcare service, training and ethical research responsive to the needs of all stakeholders significantly contributing to the Philippine Health Agenda.” The laboratory mentors demonstrate this by ensuring a program that MLS Interns gain skills, attitudes, values and capabilities needed to become future laboratory professionals. The department remained steadfast in supporting the commitments of the agency to provide MLS interns with comprehensive outcome-based education.

MMMH&MC HOLDS MEDICAL MISSION IN BURGOS, ILOCOS NORTE
When Princess Chloe Ramos, seven years old, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a cancer associated with the blood and bone marrow, in 2015, her mother Melimar Miguel thought that her daughter would not survive and will not have a normal childhood life. However, four years have passed and Princess is now at the maintenance stage of her medications for ALL. The developments in her condition became evident as she was beaming, standing side-by-side with princesses and mythical creatures in her photograph as part of the ‘Arapaap: A child’s dream photography exhibit and fashion show’ of the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC).
Aside from providing treatment to the patients and free medicines, the Hospital also conducted information campaigns during the medical mission for the patients, with topics on Cervical Cancer (OB-GYN), Head and Neck Mass (ENT), Breast Cancer (Surgery), Rabies prevention (Family Medicine), Measles (Pediatric Department), Blood Donation (NVBSP/Blood Bank), Dengue Fever (Nursing Service) and promotion of hospital services and programs (HEPO).

MMMH&MC ROLLS OUT MENTAL HEALTH SCHOOL CARAVAN
The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) conducted a mental health care school caravan to boost awareness for and prevent the rise of mental health illnesses in Ilocos Norte.
The caravan is implemented through the joint efforts of the Chain for United Millenials (CHUMS), a public health advocacy committee composed of concerned employees and mental health team of the hospital, City Health Office of Batac, City Schools Division of Batac and Kapwa Kasapi LGBTQ+ Community.
Dr. Rosemarie Quilala, CHUMS chairperson, said “MMMHMC plays a great role in ensuring that the stigma against mental illnesses is removed while acknowledging that changing the perception of people towards it will not happen overnight especially with the challenge that comes with limited resources and manpower.”
