Senator Imee Marcos and Governor Matthew Manotoc, through the LGU Batac, assisted the hospital authories to facilitate the conversion of the unoccupied school building near the main hospital to be transformed as its extension. The Terms and Conditions of the formal turnover was signed by Mrs. Mely Repollo, school principal, witnessed by Dr. Maria Lourdes Otayza, Medical Center Chief, and  will be forwarded to Mayor Albert Chua of LGU Batac today. The move was taken to increase the number of treatment space available for COVID-19 patients inside the hospital as Ilocos Norte’s census keeps increasing as a result of the latest surge in new infections. The main hospital had already converted 104 (52%) of its authorized bed capacity to COVID 19 dedicated beds and is  now in surge capacity, with 85% of total beds serving COVID19 patients.

More or less forty (40) beds will be occupied by OB, opthalmology, and ENT patients with resolving conditions in a month time after civil and construction works are done, Otayza said.

If the surge continues, the Department of Education of Batac is willing to open other rooms to assist the hospital to extend its temporary treatment facility, an official of the DepEd division, said. Other areas which can be converted are learners’ rooms which are currently unoccupied as all students have been instructed to study from home.

In a bid to increase the number of available beds, the hospital has set up field hospitals within its premises, one was already being used as holding area for patients who are highly suspicious of COVID19 while they wait for RT PCR results before admission and the other currently constructed.

The latest addition brings the total number of 3 field hospitals established during the past months.
