“The strength of our Hospital has always been its people and over the years, the dedicated men and women of MMMH&MC have done a remarkable job in our disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts which is one of our top priorities,” emphasized Dr. Otayza.

When asked about the plans of the Hospital after this recognition, Dr. Otayza revealed that MMMH&MC shall continue its “bold commitment to innovate or at least choose the less travelled path to bring effective and efficient government services to the public.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Romel Rasos, MMMH&MC’s DRRM-H manager, mentioned that the Gawad KALASAG recognition comes at a time when the Hospital is currently tracking the Proficiency Stage of the Performance Governance System, an initiative which allows the greater collaboration and participation of various stakeholders and the public to the various activities and programs of the government.

“This recognition is truly worthy as disaster risk reduction and management is not only a concern of the government or our Hospital anymore. It is of increasing importance that we should engage the public to participate in various programs and activities as it is a matter of saving lives,” highlighted Dr. Rasos.

The regional awarding ceremony of the 21st Gawad KALASAG was conducted last October 25, 2019 at Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union. All winners in the regional level are automatically nominated as finalist to the national level. –John Michael Mugas.
