During the closing program of the National Breastfeeding Month last August 29, 2019, Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza, Medical Center Chief II, further emphasized the importance of communicating the benefits of breastfeed milk to the community especially in a time where formula milks are widely available and sold to the public.

Dr. Otayza also expressed her hope that the Human Milk Bank project of the Hospital be completed by the end of the year.

“The Human Milk Bank project of the Hospital is truly important as we allow newborns who have mothers unable to produce milk benefit from the optimal nutrition and immunological protection which breast milk provides. Breast milk helps keep the baby healthy and safe.” highlighted Dr. Otayza.

Moreover, Dr. Otayza called for the greater cooperation among the employees of MMMH&MC in communicating the benefits of breastfeeding.

“We often overlook the need of informing our own employees when it comes to health issues such as breastfeeding but it must start here,” said Dr. Otayza.

In the next three years, MMMH&MC seeks to strengthen not only the information drive pertaining to breastfeeding but also its research pursuits in order to become as the Milk Deport of Region 1 (Ilocos).
