To showcase this year’s celebration, MMMH&MC has established mass vaccination drives, free clinics and advocacies on the hospital’s programs and services. Moreover, an online live selling event was also organized wherein the proceeds are donated to the Salun-At Foundation, Inc. On the other hand, a seminar on livelihood development which included free-range chicken farming, scented candle making and vegetable farming were steered by the municipalities of Carasi, Nueva Era and Currimao, respectively. Likewise, a “mercato” has been put up within MMMH&MC’s premises to support local businesses mostly of the food and beverage industries.

NHW 3A press conference was conducted to highlight this year’s theme “Universal Health Care: Ating Alamin”, with Usec. Lilibeth David, Undersecretary of Health for Health Policy and Infrastructure Development Team (HPIDT) addressing the questions from the members of the media.

NHW 4Other panelists included Dr. Jomarie Ranada, Zonta Club Representative; Mr. Johanson Chua, Multi-Sectoral Governance Committee (MSGC)  Chairman; Dr. Medeldorf Gaoat, SP Member - Committee on Health; and Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza, Medical Center Chief of MMMHMC.

NHW 5As a representation of the solid commitment of MMMH&MC in attaining its mission anchored to the Universal Health Care, Dr. Otayza, together with the division heads, spearheaded the blessing of the STP Building and new OPD Xray System of the hospital with Dr. Helen Tobias, Director III of the Center for Health Development I as the guest of speaker last August 18, 2022.

NHW 6The National Hospital Week wouldn’t be a success if not for the ever supportive and kind-hearted sponsors and stakeholders. As such, a fellowship night, organized by Mr. Richard Irvin Bismonte, Over-all Committee Head, was held at the MMMHMC covered court with the hospital employees and the members of the Multi-Sectoral Governance Committee, all dressed up to their 1950s vibes. Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and Dr. Edmundo Lopez, Philippine Hospital Association President, extended their earnest support and felicitations through a recorded video while Mr. Johanson Chua, Chairman of MSGC, delivered his whole-hearted message to everyone in attendance.

NHW 7To light up the night, a showcase of talents emerged as a Short Film Competition and “Tawag ng Tanghalan” Duet Singing Competition, stunned the crowd while intermission numbers from selected MMMHMC employees were applauded in between. These were shortly followed by the oath taking of the new members of the MSGC – Mr. Jairus Nalupta of INEC District V and Dr. Ronalee Orteza of the Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus.


Wrapping up the night was the awarding ceremony to deserving groups of employees for their remarkable contributions to the organization. Firstly, the presentation of Performance Governance System Bigkis Awardees to the following recipients - Bloodbank Section, Human Milk Bank Unit, Newborn Screening Center – Northern Luzon, Tangguyob, Nursing Division, Department of Pediatrics, Human Resource Merit Promotion and Selection Board, OPD Telemedicine and Appointment System, Budget Section, Financial Management Office, MAIP Coordinator, Public Health Unit, Human Resource Management Service Section, and the Department of Orthopedics. Secondly, in the Case and Research Contest, Dr. Laura Pauline Suero of the Department of Internal Medicine bagged the first place for the Completed Research Contest, with her research entitled “Association of Early Fever, Sugar and Swallowing (FeSS) Intervention and Clinical Outcomes Among Admitted Acute Stroke Patients of MMMHMC” with a score of 90.67% followed by Dr. Shenny Santiago of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Mr. Maurel Fortune Mateo of the Nursing Division. Thirdly, for the Interesting Case Contest, Dr. Kevin Quilala of the Department of Surgery got the first place with his case entitled “A Hole in the Wall” with a score of 86.33% followed by Dr. Ethell Maine Alipio and Dr. Hanani Hope Miguel, both from the Department of Pediatrics.

NHW 9Fourthly, for the Short Film Contest, the Nursing Division won the first place while Finance and Paramedical Division garnered the second and third place, respectively. And lastly, Mr. Reymart Peralta and Mr. Joseph Asuncion from the Paramedical Division were announced as the Champion for the Tawag ng Tanghalan followed by the Nursing and Medical Division.

Indeed, MMMH’s celebration of the National Hospital Week has highlighted the significant role of not only our hospitals but also our health system and health care workers and the innovative ways to support the needs of patients and the community which substantially contributed to nation building.
