Gov. Manotoc expressed his gratitude and commended the efforts of the medical sector and the hospitals who had come to the forefront in protecting and safeguarding the province during the pandemic. “I hope that it’s not only in this pandemic wherein our health workers are appreciated, (may pandemya man o wala), we really must appreciate, compensate, and commend all our health workers in the Philippines, " said the Governor.
He also spoke of his full support on the implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) in the province where he pledged alongside MMMH&MC to continue to improve equitable, affordable and quality health care for the country and the Ilocanos, for that matter.

Aligned with the UHC, MMMH&MC’s Medical Center Chief, Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza stated their ongoing transactions with Dingras District Hospital and RHU Solsona, hoping to see strategies on how the hospital can help them. “One of the ways we are looking at, is a consignment basis of providing the medicines so that they have the emergency medicines and they become more responsive to the patient’s needs," she stated.

She also encouraged other LGUs who are interested to have a partnership with the hospital so as to help the provincial government and other local government officials in building a strong health system in the province.

Following the opening ceremony was a eucharistic mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Danilo Debaras. This was held at the Robinsons Place Ilocos Norte. After noontime, the unveiling of UHC exhibit with LGUs and other hospitals was graced by Department of Health’s Undersecretary, Dr. Lilibeth David. The exhibit which will run until Friday, August 19, highlights the hospitals' innumerable accomplishments, best practices, health programs as well as new services.

Capping the day's program of events was a press conference dubbed "UHC Ating Alamin" which featured Dr. Jomarie Ranada, Chairperson of Zonta Medical Services Committee, Mr. Johanson Chua, Chairman of the MMMH&MC’s Multi-Sector Governance Council (MSGC) and CEO of Chua Consolidated Companies, Dr. Medeldorf Gaoat, Senior Board Member and Dr. Maria Lourdes Otayza as panelists.

Every year, the Department of Health, hospitals, health facilities and agencies celebrate National Hospital Week to foreground the vital role of the health sector across the country. This year’s celebration, themed, “Ospital: Pagbangon mula sa Pandemya, kayang kaya basta’t sama-sama”.
